Today is Pazcki day, which is basically a jelly donuts eaten by the Polish before Lent. I have made them before, but not for a few years. It’s a very time intensive and daunting process. This year, I made the dough the night before and then fried them up the morning of. It worked out well. I took a dozen to work and Ellie took a dozen to work. Her dozen didn’t last past noon. Mine, because we were short-staffed today, made it to about Continue reading →
So apparently there is a new seasons of Chef’s Table out on Netflix. Ellie and I really love this show. It’s fascinating to see how chefs from all over the world approach food. Often, they have very similar approaches and that usually means finding a way to modernize their country’s traditional dishes and prove it can stand up against all other cuisines of the world. Simply fascinating. More often than not, the chef cooks organic food that is locally grown by working with local farmers. And Continue reading →
In the past six months, my diet has been overhauled for the better.im finally eating the way I have always wanted to eat, but usually made the excuse that it was too expensive to do so. Don’t get me wrong, I still eat tasty and crappy foods, I just consider the food I eat to be healthier now. It started last summer when my coworker encouraged me and another co-worker to sign up for a CSA. We had a whole summer if fresh, organic vegetables. Continue reading →
Wasn’t great. Sometimes, I get a great idea of what to make for dinner but the execution ends up being off for some reason or another. Last night, I made a coconut chicken curry soup. I thought no it could have been good, but I used cream of coconut instead of coconut milk. The cream of coconut, apparently, is really sweet. Like, coconut flavored syrup sweet. I didn’t realize this until after I put the whole can in. Had I not done that, I could Continue reading →
Sometimes I wonder if I really missed my calling in life. Most of my day is centered around emailing and de elopement and other tech related things but my mind wanders to what I’m cooking for dinner. Like a ton of my resting mind thinks about food. Yesterday a co-worker of mine mentioned she tried making pasties only to be thwarted by her husband not wanted the calories in the dough. I then decided to make those for dinner instead of whatever I would have Continue reading →
Because I don’t think anyone who reads this is going to get any spoilers, I figured I’d tell you what I made last night to give away as presents for Christmas this year. If you haven’t guessed from the title yet, I made sausage. Italian sausage. Ellie had this great idea, to save money on gifts, instead of buying gifts for everyone, I’d make them a gift in the form of a meal. Last year I gave family homemade pasta and it went over pretty Continue reading →
Every day, I wake up and go for a walk, shower, and then get ready for work. I make a sandwich for lunch, oat bread with three slices of turkey, three slices of Wauwewaga sharp cheddar cheese, and a spread of Mayo on one slice. I wrap that up and put it in my lunch box along with a raspberry seltzer. For emergencies, I keep a Nature’s Valley peanut butter granola bar in there too. You never know when 3pm will come to haunt you. Continue reading →
I love that when I wake up in the morning, there’s a cat sitting on my chest, waiting to be fed. I love that she sits in between the shower curtains while I shower, waiting to be fed. I love that once she’s fed, she purrs. I really love that once she’s fed, she still comes and sits on my lap while I check the internet and have my breakfast. That’s how I know she loves me.
I’m getting older. I’m not old, but I’m older than I was and it’s starting to show. For years, I’ve not really had a problem with my hair graying. In fact, I’m looking forward to it. I’m not sure why exactly, but I think I’d look good with it. Today, however, I’m not concerned with my hair getting gray–I’m concerned with my belly getting bigger. I think we live in a terrible society that places a lot of emphasis on “being in shape” and being Continue reading →
Today’s lunch was exactly what I expected it to be, with a few more toppings than I expected. Also, five feet of pizza for nine people is a lot when most people don’t pull their own weight. Take a gander: Five feet of pizza apparently comes in two boxes. To make the day better, I had an unexpected meeting with my bosses and got a raise. Boom. Day owned.
