On Being a Twentysomething

Ooh boy. This is one of those posts I knew I’d get to at some point but never really imagined it being here. The weird thing is that I knew exactly when it should be written. Today. I needed it out today because as of today, I am no longer in my twenties. In years past, I’ve tried to sum up only the previous year and what it meant to me. But this occasion is so momentous and it’s more than a year. It’s a decade. It’s Continue reading →

Keeping track of programming projects over the years

I know for years and years I’ve teased different programming projects, among others, I’m working on here (hell, this website was initially a programming project–I wrote an entire blogging platform from scratch as a proof of concept; it was primitive, but I loved the software and only switch to WordPress as it was easier to maintain). More often than not, they didn’t amount to much. Part of me thinks that my writing about them on here caused me to lose interest in them. That’s not Continue reading →

I Never Was Good at the Processes of Writing

I really need to find the motivation to finish my novel draft and then start outlining my Peace Corps book. I just can’t and I keep coming up with excuses for “better” things to do. Somebody please help. For example, last month I wanted to write 30,000 words to finish my novel. I started and I wrote two days but I never really got going. My excuse was that j had to get my apartment and life in order before people came to visit and Continue reading →

Project Advancements due to Open Source

I've been a supporter of the open source community for a long time. This project requires a lot of programming functions which I could spend weeks painstakingly researching and writing and debugging. While I've dabbled with the project here and there since the original spark in my mind, I've really come into it full force since stumbling across a few more pay versions of it. Consider it my way of giving back to a community who has given me so much already and hopefully spreading the reach of open source to new backers.

I have a bunch of secret projects I’m working on and this one is still a secret

So, there was this project I started last year in the Peace Corps. I think it was last summer but without checking timestamps on files and whatnot, I don’t know. Let’s be honest here, I’m too lazy to do something simple like that for the sake of accuracy (but I would go to great lengths to prove someone else wrong in a more trivial situation). My mind is magical in this way. Anyway, while I’m not yet ready to show to you exactly what the Continue reading →

Working on Publishing

Back in college, I needed to put together a senior thesis for my creative writing degree. What came out of that was The Life of Charles Wright. While at the time I wasn’t completely happy with how it turned out, it has recently grown on me. I still think it needs a heavy hand of edits, which I intend to give it. That’s right, I’m going to sit down and turn this story into something better than it was, roughly three years after I started Continue reading →

Proposed Writing Retreat

If you remember last year, I had an ambitious November. I wanted to take 30 days to make myself a better man, and I did. I wanted to do 100 push-ups and 100 sit-ups each day, and I did. I also wanted to complete NaNoWriMo, and I did. It was ambitious and by the end I was absolutely drained in every aspect of my life, but it felt great to do all those things on top of my daily activities. This year, however, I won’t attempt to make myself Continue reading →

Writing Short Things Again

I haven’t been doing a lot of writing lately, novel or blog. I don’t have much of a reason other than I’ve been going into school for a few hours this past week. Actually, that makes for a great excuse. If I’m going in to school, I’m not going to drink coffee which is essential for my creative juices. If I drink coffee before school, I’ll feel like I’m wasting that creative burst. Also, coffee has a tendency to speed up my metabolism and I’ll Continue reading →

A Novel Idea

Hey, hey guys. Guess what? This notebook: Is completely full of my novel. That’s right, all 96 pages (front and back) have been written in. Don’t believe me? Take a look for yourself: Now I have roughly 40,000 words left to write in my new notebook. I’ve kinda been busy lately. I mean, in a week and a half I’ve written about 16,000 words. So, those 40,000 should come soon. Too bad I won’t have time most of next week due to a summer camp. Continue reading →

Excuse Thursday

It’s time for everybody’s favorite game here, Danny Makes Excuses!  I’m fully aware that I said I’d type up a bunch of my novel yesterday and update the word count but other things got in my way. It’s fine, I’ll hopefully get to it later today. First off, yesterday I was having trouble with WordPress. It wouldn’t connect to external sites (I think it was a cURL issue but there was a chance it was also something related to IPv6). It took me all day, in Continue reading →
