Tech Tips – Distraction December GIFs

Tech Tips / Friday, December 16th, 2011

To continue with your Distraction December Tech Tips, this week I’m offering something to keep your creative mind distracted. This week I want to introduce you to http://gifninja.com. You can use the site to transform your normal, motionless pictures into animated GIFs (moving pictures, think Harry Potter).

The website is very easy to use; just select your photos from your hard drive using the “Select Files” dialog. Hold Ctrl while you click (for Windows users) and hold Command while you clock (for Mac users) will allow you to select multiple photos at a time. After you’ve selected your files, the website will upload them and then redirect you to make adjustments on the speed of the animation and to name the new file. You can also rearrange the photos. Choose a name for it, then click “Looks good, build it!”. On the last page you can view the completed animation and share or download the image. The big, pink download button will save the file to your computer.

If you’re looking for project ideas, I have a few suggestions. Take a photo on the hour throughout the day, looking through your window to track the daylight (warning, the majority of the image will end up being black). Go to the center, sit on a bench and take photos of your long shadow slowly moving in front of you. Make funny faces. Track the contents of your bowl of borscht as you eat it. Create them, save them and then upload them to your blog. Share the Peace Corps culture.
