Tech Tips – Distraction December Games

Tech Tips / Friday, December 2nd, 2011

Hello my fellow PCVs. I have a feeling, that you’re receiving this week’s Friday Digest and reading this Tech Tip, while it’s dark outside. It seems like the sun hardly comes up anymore, doesn’t it? Unfortunately, I don’t have a tech tip to make the days longer and sunnier but this month I’ll be bringing you some tips to distract you from the December darkness.

The first Distraction December tip will hopefully be one that will keep you busy for the entire month, a way to waste away the dark times and keep you busy until the wee hours of the morning. This week, I bring you a few games. Unfortunately, you’ll need to open the games with an internet connection and then leave them open in the event you don’t have constant internet access.

The first game is an old classic, with a twist. It’s called First Person Tetris (http://www.firstpersontetris.com/). It’s Tetris as you first learned to play, but instead of the piece rotating, the screen rotates. It’s a fun challenge.

The second game is another classic and without any twists (I think I still have the old gold NES cartridge floating around my parents’ house with our old NES). This game is The Legend of Zelda (http://www.nintendo8.com/game/810/legend_of_zelda/) and it’s every bit of the original game packed into a website. You can even save your progress and load it with a code so you don’t have to beat it in one sitting (my respect if you do, however). You will need to allow a Java plug-in for the game to run.

The third game is more recent. I remember sitting in lectures in college and watching people play this on their laptops, so I judge it to be about four years old. It’s called Bubble Spinner (http://www.deadwhale.com/play.php?game=774). The premise is simple, match the colored bubbles to make them disappear. Clear all the colored bubbles and you get to move to the next level. I don’t think I’ve ever made it past level 2, can you?

Alright, hopefully these will keep you going for a while. Do you have a distraction? Feel free to share them with me and I’ll pass them along in an upcoming Tech Tip.
