Say what you mean, mean what you say

I don’t like when people try to write self-flattering fiction. If you want to say that someone is infatuated with you, come out and say it. Don’t pretend to be that person thinking about you with nothing but praising words and obsession.

I read a creative non-fiction piece today where the girl was telling a story about herself from the 3rd person omniscient. At one point she says, “While Madison doubted that this group appreciated anything about her beyond relatively good looks and numerous male friends, she did enjoy the social benefits reaped solely from an association with them.” She used her own name and outright made the claim that she had good looks. While I might have laughed out loud when I read that, I salute her for being honest about what her intent was with her writing.
