Junior year

Blog / Sunday, December 21st, 2008

I have been meaning to write this post for a few days now. Obviously I haven’t written it yet. Some good does come from my procrastination though. Had I written three days ago instead of now, I would have had less to talk about.

It has been a weird week, a weird month, a weird semester. Junior year seems to be the reason for this. Everyone has gotten past most, if not all, of their basic courses and now are in the process of focusing on their major. I just chose a major (though I still am technically undeclared).

This seems to be the year that people get internships that take them out of school, the city, the state, or possibly the country. Junior year also seems to be the year most people study abroad.

Junior year is the year when most people turn 21.

I haven’t gone any where, no internships want me (but that is due to a lack of applying) and I am no longer planning on studying abroad. I am focusing on my major, but I am stuck taking the prerequisite courses due to my failure in previous studies.

The past couple days I have been saying goodbye to people. One person is taking the semester off for an out of state internship. Another friend flew off to another country for seven months abroad. The rest of my friends went to their respective homes for the month long Christmas break.

I have been in search of a job as of late. I chose to leave my post at the newspaper. I have had to say goodbye to people who I spent hundreds of hours with because of work.

I know that I will be able to see all of these people again if I wish (and I do), but knowing that it won’t be for a predetermined amount of time makes it hard for some reason. It turns your life into a series of countdowns. How many days until this person returns? How many days until that event comes to pass? How long will it be before we don’t see some of these people ever again?

Its been weird lately.

You may have noticed that the comics have a new look to them. If you didn’t, check again because they do. I decided that at least for the span of my Christmas break (I celebrate Christmas therefore that is the point of my break) I am going to be doing the comics on solely on the computer. Thus far I have found the comics turning out nicer than if I penned them and then scanned them in. There is a possibility that I will switch over to this method indefinitely. We will see how break goes.

Speaking of break, mine is treating me great and I am only two days in to it. So far, I have started three books and finished two of them. today I went through and cleaned my entire apartment, minus my roommates room (not my domain). It appears that all I needs is a little free time and I can get a lot accomplished.

I only have a few plans for my break. I plan to read. I plan to make a few changes to this website (things that need to be done for the new year and a side project). I also plan on working, I have two jobs over break to keep me occupied (sitting in a cubicle, transferring a university departmental website to new software).

Well, having said all that, I am off to read my book. If I do not make it back before your respective religious holiday, make it a happy one!

  1. Up for a good, long conversation this break? I need to hear about your life and all this major-switching business that’s got you all pensive.

  2. It’s definitely been weird lately… But I hope you’re enjoying your Christmas break 🙂 And I’ll see you in 6.5 short months!

  3. btw is there any particular reason that when I press the ‘previous’ button for comics the calendar reverts to 2000 instead of 2008? Just thought I should mention it in case you didn’t know…

  4. Cool, now I don’t know if this matters or not, but when I click on 2008 I can’t click on any dates for comics. I can only navigate with the first/previous/next/last buttons… another challenge?

  5. Its cool, my mom already notified me of the situation. I haven’t had enough time to sit down and fix it but I do know the problem. So hopefully it will be fixed soon.
