September is a Time for Change

I’ve set a goal for myself this month. I’m going to try to post every other day. My posts won’t be random daily updates nor will they be about making myself a better man like I did in November of 2011. Instead, I found a bunch of “30 Day Writing Challenge” prompts and I’ve picked the better ones out of them and queued them up, with a few personal things mixed in. It should be exciting.

The goal of this isn’t to complete some challenge nor is it to pad my archives (though that’s always fun to do, see here). What I’m trying to do is get myself back in the habit of writing. I have two books I want to finish and I need practice forcing myself to write after a long day at the office. Right now, I just come home, eat, and then watch television until bed time. I feel like I’m wasting a lot of time. Since I’m publishing this here, I have a good feeling I’ll keep myself accountable. Let’s wait and see.

In the meantime, I’m going to work on other things outside of writing as well. I’m trying to jumpstart my fitness regime. I spent the better part of the past three weeks with a crippling cold and I missed out on biking every morning (though, having the girlfriend around also limited my time to exercise because I wanted to spend time with her). In addition to biking I’m going to get my upper body, mainly my abs, into shape.

I also have the moped to work on. Again, now that the girlfriend is gone, I have more time to work on the build. I got it for cheap with a title, but I didn’t realize how expensive it would be to source the original replacement parts or how time-consuming it would be to retrofit new parts. It’s a fun and manageable project I can work on in my living room. When I’m done with the thing, it’s going to zip around the streets better than ever. I’ll try to post progress on it now and then. Having the little thing in my living room makes me wish I could wheel my Kawasaki into here and work on it.

That’s all I’ve got for tonight. Head back tomorrow for the first in the series of month-long updates and writing.
