Gushing about my new job

Blog / Sunday, April 26th, 2015

Guys, I’m loving my new job. I started at the end of February this year and it is exactly what I imagined it to be, and then even a little more.

Since it’s been a while, I now work at CODAworx.com as the Magazine Editor and Copy Editor. As I mentioned above, it’s exactly what I wanted it to be. It’s on the career path I wanted to explore. It’s writing and editing. I work from home, well, my boss’s home (though the word around the office is we will be moving to an office space towards the end of summer). My coworkers are great and they keep to themselves which is great for my sanity. I’m stationed in Madison and Ellie works a few blocks away. And most importantly, I can tell people I work for the internet!

In my job, I manage and curate a monthly publication which highlights the great collaborative art projects on our website. I do a lot of email correspondence, copy writing and editing to promote the magazine, and help with web development tasks (though for once, I’m not the coder!).

Sometimes I feel bad about how much I can gush about my job because I know not everyone is working their dream job. But today I’m allowing myself to gush on a grander scale, maybe it will get it out of my system.

I really like the atmosphere here, it’s encouraging and nurturing and energetic unlike some of my previous jobs which were merely job and hardly anything to write home about. I don’t see that atmosphere, or my perception of it, changing either. I could see myself here for the long haul.

Part of my mood change towards work is that I’m back in Madison and Wisconsin is slowly defrosting. Location plays a huge role in my sentiment towards things. At my last job, I had at least 25 minutes commute if there was no traffic and that was time wasted. There was no better way to get to my office. Even if I lived close, and could walk to my office I would have hated the location because it was in a terribly commercial neighborhood. It lacked community. Now, I still have a 25 minute commute, but I can take the bus with Ellie or I can ride my bike (which I intend to do every day the weather affords). If I’m having a better commute, it tends to lead towards a better day.

Also we have cats in the “office”, so that makes things great.

Also, my boss is very encouraging that I get involved in different communities in the area. Everything at work too is a learning experience that I can apply to many aspects of my life. I’m still waiting to wake up and find out I’m still stuck in the translation business.

What’s your dream job? Are you currently living it?
