So there’s a curious thing going on lately with gas prices and I’m not going to complain. My guesses is that it has to do with me getting my “old person” ID back in November. The state of Wisconsin issues driver’s licenses in the vertical format if you’re under 21 years old. Assuming you don’t lose your license or have to get a new license for some reason, the license needs to be renewed when you turn 27 (or after some time frame) and then you get the horizontal license. Since I never lost my license or have to get a new one, I finally got my old person ID in November.
Anyway, it seems like since I got the new ID gas prices have been on the severe downturn. I’m sure you’ve noticed this but this week I bought gas for roughly the same price per gallon that gas was when I started driving. This is why I think it has to do with my ID. Makes sense? Right?
The drop is rather abrupt. I’ve been keeping track of my own gas consumption because I have a need to quantify my life. Take a look at this chart of my cost of gas since I started driving again in late 2012:
Part of me wants to drive and drive and really take advantage of the gas prices but the other part of me knows I can’t get the time off of work to be free to travel. And another part of me really doesn’t want to sit in a car for long periods of time.
But real talk, I want to travel and now seems like the perfect climate for it. My goal is to visit all 50 states in my lifetime. I want to see the things that people go to each state to see. In California, I want to see the Redwoods. In New Mexico, I want to see the hot air balloons. The bayou. Big Sur. The coal mines. The Alamo. Whatever a state is known for, I want to see it.
Where would you go if you could visit any state? What would you see there? I want ideas and I’m looking for travel partners to fill in for the parts they want to see. Hit me up in the comments.
Portland, Oregon: I have no idea what to do/see.. I think I’d just want to hang out there for a few days. Maybe also do some hiking/camping in the nature out there. (Like my Ukraine reference?)
Montana: Glacier National Park. Also visit the kids I used to babysit.
Texas: Visit Austin, visit Jeramie, and eat all the BBQ in sight (duh)
Charleston, South Carolina: I don’t know what there is to do there but I’ve heard it’s a really great city.
Alaska: I just want to see Alaska at least once in my life.
South Dakota: Badlands National Park
California: any of the national parks, Northern CA wine country, and go back to SF and eat at the place I had the most amazing sushi of my entire life back in 2009.
Washington: I’ve spent a lot of time in Washington, but I’d like to go (and plan to go back) in the next couple years. I have family out there and they have a boat and it’s amazing, and my cousin teaches kayaking. I would spend as much time as possible on the water.
And wherever I go, I would ideally be catching baseball games too, as I want to see every MLB park in my lifetime.
Ooooo yeah! I forgot to mention the baseball stadiums. That would be a good thing to combine all these trips into.
National Parks are what I really want to see I think. I’m okay with seeing the cities too, but really it’s the country’s beauty I want to see.
Alaska. We can visit Garrett in Chicken, Alaska!
I don’t know who Garrett is or what Chicken, Alaska is, but I want to go to there.
I wasn’t sure if you knew Garrett. He was in the group with Brian and Jenny and I think they showed up the December after you went home.
But I saw the Wikipedia link to downtown Chicken and well, yeah. Seems about right. Garrett said it had a population of 23 and if you want a pizza delivered, some guy would drop it off via a plane coming from a bigger area.
