You know it’s a good day when you go into work and you’re planning on buying a few tickets to see a legendary singer in the flesh and you leave work not having bought the tickets but still getting to see the concert. For me, this happened a few months ago. I was planning on buying tickets to see Sir Paul McCartney in concert and my coworker got wind of it. While waiting for the tickets to go on sale, he casually mentioned to our boss that he should buy us all tickets. Five minutes later, my boss came over with his credit card and told us to get enough for each person in the office to have two.
Last night was the concert and it was far better than I could have expected it to be. It was in Miller Stadium which I was skeptic about seeing a concert in because it was built for baseball but it worked surprisingly well. True to Miller Park form, tons of people were tailgating before the big event. We weren’t left out of it either.
Sir Paul, for being 71 years old, really does a great job on stage. He went strong for three hours which included three encores. The general consensus was that everyone loved the Beatles songs he played but no one complained about his Wings and newer stuff. I particularly enjoyed his stories about visiting Ukraine and Russia. It was one of the high-ranking Soviet official during their visit to Russia that said to him, in a thick Russian accent, “My first album Love Me Do.” Then he stuck out his hand to shake and in the same accent, “Hello, Goodbye.”
It was a great night spent with coworkers and dates. Completely worth staying out way past my bedtime on a work night.
Take a look at the photos I took from the evening:
I can’t forget to mention that our tailgating party made the online paper: Paul McCartney fans, young and old, flock to Miller Park for concert
