AWOL No More

I’ve been on hiatus. I’m back now, hopefully more regularly than the past six months. I know I did some writing here and there, and there would be spurts where I’d post a bunch every couple of days, but that’s not what I want. I want to write daily. Those every couple of day posts were all written on the same day and their publishing was spaced out. So really, I wrote once or twice a month for the past six months. I’m terrible.

How about a quick update post to catch you up on my life? The important parts, at least.

I’m training for a half-marathon. I’ll be running it with one of my childhood friends next Sunday. It was his idea, but I’ve really embraced it. I’ve been in heavy training for the past couple of weeks and I feel like I’m in the exact shape I need to be for the longest distance I’ll have ever run. Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday I get up early before work and get in a decent workout. If I have the time on weekends, I go for a longer run. Not sure if I’ll have time this weekend as the girlfriend in visiting before she jets off to France. Maybe I’ll squeeze in an hour run one of the days, early in the morning before it’s too warm.

I can’t remember if I mentioned this or not, but when my three month review came up in March I was ready to be fired. I thought I had been doing terribly and making a lot of mistakes which were costing the company money. On the contrary I heard almost nothing but praise. One criticism I received was that I need to be better at communicating. My dad tells me that this is a criticism he’s received more often than not on his yearly reviews. I’m doing my best to avoid hearing it for next year. Anyway, with that review came both confidence and a nice raise. Needless to say, I’m staying with it for a now. I’m pretty sure I didn’t mention this before, but I was on the fence for  while about whether or not I’d stay with the job. It’s really grown on me.

The most recent development in my life is that I’ve gotten a place of my own. It’s bigger than I probably need but not too big (Peace Corps imparted a spartan way of life on me that I can’t seem to shake). I moved in at the beginning of the month. I’ll try and post pictures now that things are mostly in their places. It’s nice being closer to work because I get to sleep in but it’s really nice having a great friend within the same city. That was one of the hardest parts about staying with my parents, I really only knew them in town.

Finally, I’m starting to get back on the motorcycle. After having two years of not being able to ride it, I thought I’d be on it the first chance I got. While the weather hasn’t been ideal, I really haven’t made a point to ride like I used to. I think I’ve been scared to get back on. After not riding for so long, you lose the confidence that you usually have. I don’t take turns as aggressively. I don’t put the extra oomph into accelerating. I’m afraid I’m going to take a spill and never get back on the bike. Also, the bike needs a decent tune up as the two years of riding seem to have helped it forget how to be a smooth riding bike. I’m going to try and do the tune up myself, but I need to price the tools I’ll need for parts of it.

That’s all I’m writing for tonight. I need to get up early tomorrow for a relaxing run before work followed by a hot date.

    1. I’m looking forward to it too. And the return of coffee. I swore it off for training.

And yes, girlfriend. She’s intelligent and beautiful and probably far more than I deserve.

      1. I’m sure you totally deserve her.

You swore off coffee for training?! Mad props to you. I guess it’ll taste all the better post-race.
