Tech Tips – The Last One

This week, I want to tell you about cvmaker (https://cvmkr.com). Remember Resume Builder? It’s like that but on steroids. The best part? You don’t have to use any workarounds to remove advertisements from your résumé. Great, huh?

This week, I wanted to tell you about CCleaner (http://www.piriform.com/CCLEANER). It’s a great program that runs on both Windows and Mac. What it does is scan through the files on your computer and it helps you clean out the unnecessary ones so your computer runs a little more smoothly.

This week, I want to tell you about Henri the cat. Did you know there was a film festival solely for cat videos? It was held a couple of months back in Minnesota of all places. The best film award went to the second part of Henri the cat (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q34z5dCmC4M). But don’t stop there. Watch parts 1 and 3 too; they’re certain to cheer you up as these days get shorter.

This week, I want to remind you that passwords should be secure. Make sure they have both upper and lower case letters. Mix in some numbers and symbols. Toss and enjoy a more secure online life. If you need to use the password over, consider incrementing the number at the end by one (this helps for SharePoint).

This week, I want to remind you to back up your important files. If you have spare space on an external hard drive, you might thank me the day your computer’s internal hard drive crashes.

This week, I want to remind you to stop ignoring the update balloon on your desktop and to install the updates. Your computer will be more secure, run better, and be happier in the end. It might not know how to express its gratitude toward you, but it does care. Think of it like buying new shoes for a toddler. They need them, but they haven’t learned yet how to say thanks.

This week, I want to tell you about a great corn bread recipe. Oh wait, that message is for my landlady. She absolutely adores cornbread and says it’s better than cookies to have with tea. But still, there’s so many things I want to tell you this week—I’ve only scratched the surface—and every week that follows. However, my time here is done. With this last Tech Tip of mine, I’m passing off the responsibility to a friend and oblast neighbor, Larry Gipson. Now, I move on to other writing projects like my Description of Service and beyond in my post-Peace Corps life. It’s been a treat writing for you each week and hearing your responses. Keep fighting the good fight—the fight for technology.
