The One Where I MacGyvered a Beard

So, I’ve been growing a beard. It’s something I’ve wanted to do for a long time and I think it’s something everyone should try, at least to learn how your facial hair actually grows. Hell, you might end up liking it.

Some of my “friends” have strongly urged me to shave it. They insist that I look better with out facial hair. Others have been supportive, saying it looks good. I bet some are being nice, because I know they saw it on a bad beard day. One or two others mentioned that it’s good as long as it doesn’t get too long. And that’s a point I agree with, and have a problem with.

Here’s what it looks like:

You see, I can’t justify buying an electric razor. I’m not sure how long I’ll keep the beard and plus, if I buy one here, it will be usable only in Europe due to plug formations. I can’t justify the investment. But I grew a beard anyway. I needed to figure out a way to trim it evenly. Today, I figured it out.

Here’s what I did. I had skewers leftover from shishkabobs on the 4th of July, I used two in the back and pieces on the side to separate the combs. The back ones are tied with thread and the sides are taped. The setup was far more stable than I expected. Then I just used my normal razors on the hair. It didn’t shave it too short.

And here’s an early shot of the sink. I forgot to grab an end shot before I cleaned it up:

It wasn’t the easiest to maneuver the combo-comb about my face while shaving hair at the same time, but it ended up working. Here’s the result:

What do you think? Better now or before?

Here’s one final picture of happy Danny. He’s happy that he managed to pull this off without making it look horrible.
