Tech Tips – Pinger Textfree

Do you text a lot? Do you not want to sign up for a Google account just to use Google Voice? Well Jeramie Heflin sent me a great website that will give you a US phone number to use solely for sending and receiving text messages. The website is http://pinger.com/textfree/.

Signing up is easy. All you need to do is choose a username, your password, and an email account to link it to. After that, enter the security code and continue to the number-choosing page. Enter any US zip code, your gender, and age, and then they’ll serve up a list of available phone numbers in the area. Choose one and you’re now ready to start texting your friends and family back home. The blue plus sign will allow you to create a new message. You can enter a new number or choose from your list of recent numbers.

I recommend opening up the options and removing the signature added to the end of each text message. This will give you a little more space to write.

Do you know of any other great websites? Send them my way and I’ll be happy to share them.
