Dancing the Dance

So I mentioned about a week ago that I had dance practice again. You know, learning to waltz, polonez, and the like. In an article I read recently (12 Reasons to Date a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer), they mentioned,

“We’re pretty good dancers. Yeah, we don’t like to brag, but after 27 months in Latin America or Africa we know how to move it.”

Which bothered those of us serving in Eastern Europe again. I can only imagine the same is true of the volunteers in Asia. Anyway, the way it’s worded it sounds like these volunteers spend a lot of time in Latin nightclubs and African drum circles (which sounds wrong, but that’s how I read it). So you grind up on sweaty nationals, maybe move your hips a bit? Pff.

In Ukraine, we keep the dance ballroom dance alive. This past week, I learned the basics of the waltz and the polonez and then had a chance to show it off. Beat that rest of the Peace Corps world.
