Tech Tips – Offline Gmail and Google Calendar Access

In yet another attempt to make you more productive as you travel around the country, I have a tip this week for you to be able to read your email while you’re on the go and without internet. Of course this message doesn’t apply to those of you who already download your messages using programs like Windows Mail or Thunderbird or Mail on a Mac. This message also is intended for those of you who are Gmail users. If you’re not a Gmail user and do not Continue reading →

Wireless internet makes my life less frustrating

Who’s got two thumbs, a Ukrainian VPN internet connection, an American Dlink wireless router, and a working wireless network in his Ukrainian apartment? This guy. I’d been having issues with the cable for my internet almost since the day I got my high-speed connection. I have this new type of cable internet in town. From my understanding, there are main routers in each building where the cable internet comes into and then if an apartment wants a hook up, a tech just comes out and Continue reading →

Working on myself

A couple of days ago I mentioned that I’ll be taking 30 Days to be a Better Man. I plan on following this through to the best of my ability in Ukraine (clearly I’ll have a little more trouble finding someone to give me a straight razor shave here than in the States). I’ll also try to keep things updated on here with my progress. November will be a busy month. I mentioned to friend recently that if Peace Corps is nothing, at least you Continue reading →

Why I Choose to Leave Facebook

I joined on August 18th, 2006. I became friends with two of my closest friends within the month following. On June 20th, 2008 I entered into a relationship with Emily Meier. That relationship ended a little over four months later on November 5, 2008. I have documented photos of me singing, dancing and partaking in revelry. I’m in costume and underwear, jeans and a t-shirt. I liked baseball, movies, good clothes, fast cars, whiskey, and you. I flirted with girls every day of the week. I had my Continue reading →

A Song of Ice and Fire: A Storm of Swords

I find it hard to talk about the Song of Ice and Fire series because there is so much that happens in each one of them. I could have reviewed the first two by now, but I didn’t know where to begin. I’m going to assume you have read them already, however, and this might contain some plot spoilers. It must be said that George R. R. Martin’s writing style is uniquely drawing. There’s something almost jarring about how he changes narrators after each chapter. But the jarring isn’t Continue reading →

HIMYM – Mystery vs. History

This week’s episode of How I Met You Mother – Mystery vs. History had two great story lines which managed to tie themselves together. For once, this season, I wasn’t dreading the scene change to Marshall and Lily. Ted was back to being his usual, self-destructive dating self. At the beginning of the episode, Ted lands himself a date with a girl he met at the bar, Paula (Amber Stevens). He used a pick up line stating that he has no intention of looking her up online before Continue reading →

Big Bang Theory – The Russian Rocket Reaction

The Big Bang Theory is one of those shows this season which I’ve felt like it’s taken some time to get back in it’s groove. I haven’t felt the story line has been up to par nor have I thought the jokes to be on and nor have I really seen some spectacular acting. but this week’s episode was a throwback story line and it brought back some much needed humor to the show. There’s a running story in which Sheldon has Wil Wheaton as his Continue reading →

Community – Remedial Chaos Theory

Community came full force this week. Every now and then they have an episode that goes above and beyond the usual methods for storytelling. For example, the two(/three) paintball episodes, the second season Christmas episode, Abed’s birthday, and the Dungeons and Dragons episode. This was one of those episodes. The episode revolves around a housewarming party Troy and Abed throw for themselves now that the two of them have gotten an apartment together. The initial creepiness of their apartment fades into a numbness as it keeps Continue reading →
