Tech Tips – Blog Passwords

Have you read over the Peace Corps blog policy lately and realized that you’re too lazy or busy to send your blog posts to your regional manager for approval before you post them and you desperately wish to password protect each post but don’t know how? You’re in luck because this tip will teach you how to password protect posts for Blogger and WordPress. The official Peace Corps policy for blogs can be found on page 17 of the “Policy and Procedure Handbook” (this can be found on the resource CD in “/Admin/Policy & Procedure Handbook & Forms/”).

Blogger

There is only one option to password protect Blogger posts. This method requires you to invite specific people to read your blog and everyone without an invite cannot read it. To do this, open the “Settings” tab from the dashboard and choose “Permissions”. Under the “Blog Readers” heading, choose “Only People I Choose,” enter the email addresses of people you’d like to invite to read your blog. Press “Invite”.

WordPress

WordPress posts are protected on a post-by-post basis. While you are writing your post, on the right-hand side near the top in the “Publish” box there should a “Visibility” option. Click “Edit” and choose “Password Protected”.  Enter a password into the box. Press “OK”. You will need to set a password on every post you wish to protect.
