We make our own

It seems like a lot of people are in limbo these days. Hardly anyone has a full time job even though everyone seems to need one.

I’ve been looking, though my situation is complicated. First, I’m waiting to hear about the Peace Corps and I don’t know how to go about finding a job when I might be leaving in a few months. Also, I agreed to work for the summer at a part-time job I had during the school year. While I’m sure that I could quit early, I’d still feel bad about going back on my promise.

I was talking to a friend a week ago who also graduated. She’s having trouble finding a job too. I joked that I was going to write a screen play and make sure it’d be produced. That way, I could try and get all of my unemployed friends into the productions so we’d have jobs, get paid and more importantly get the experience needed to get hired.

Experience is the worst. Everyone comes to realize at some point that you need experience to get hired but no one will hire you without experience. Catch-22.

Anyway, a friend of mine decided that he wanted to make his own experience and contacted some of us about helping him. He wanted to produce a web series that will give him video production experience. I joined in half for the fun of and that it will kill my free time but also half for the experience I’d gain in writing scripts because I volunteered to be the writer. Fortunately, we’ll be going over scripts as a group after I write them in order to hammer out some decent jokes; that way i won’t have to be the sole ‘funny man’ in the production.

I guess you could say that I’m only a few steps away from writing my screen play and helping all my friends get jobs. I’ll keep you updated on my progress.
