Papers and websites

Apparently is it crunch time here at school. Sadly, today’s comic is quite reflexive of my next couple weeks. I actually think the comic might be an understatement. The back of my mind has three papers and a portfolio floating around it at all times lately. It was about a week ago that I realized that this would happen. Oh well, at least I attempted a jump start this evening. Take a gander:

In (the play with Oedipus where the two brothers fight for the one city) the brothers are cursed by their father and end up dying. Also there is the choice for Creon (check this name) and it’s really his fault. Explain this for 200 words.

Wrap this all up and hit the high road, ride into the sunset and never look back. You’re an outlaw man, you defied the Gods, called them assholes and you have no remorse.

Much of my time lately has been spent on one of two things, job hunting and birthdays. The latter is more fun, but the former is more important.

It seems as though all of my friends’ parents chose to procreate on the 4th of July, thus giving me a month full of revelry. Since this is the big year for most college age people, its also an expensive one for all parties involved. In addition to the traditional dinner, everyone has a desire to ‘hit the bars’ and make a night of it. Drinks here are not cheap. The only way I have managed to partake is by being frugal. My best showing so far cost less than $10 and I ended up with three drinks bought for myself and then mooching off of others. It is easy to do once their train of thought slows. I can think of two more celebrations in the near future, and then I finally get to rest.

Sometimes it is hard to find a job. Sometimes the economy sucks. Put those together and you have now. I have been searching nonstop, sending out resumes and cover letters left and right and praying each night in hopes of landing some form of employment for the summer and possibly into the school year. The folder on my computer tells me I sent out roughly 15 resumes. This doesn’t count the small handful of applications I filled out either. I was working hard for work.

There seems to be a general trend in this town, don’t reply with any information about the job you are hiring for and especially do not tell them that you received their resume. Just assume that your silence for a few months will tell them clearly that the job was not meant for them. This wouldn’t bother me so much if I was just handing in applications and resumes without knowing that a company is hiring, but I am looking at online job posting boards that are updated in real time. I know that you are, in fact, hiring.

Fortunately for me, I finally was able to schedule an interview. I went in today during my lunch break. The job was listed as ‘Sales Associate/Internet Guru’ and instantly I thought, ‘This is the job for me, don’t forget you are getting desperate.’ So I sent in my resume, with very little hope, at 11pm on a Thursday night. I had an email requesting an interview by 8:30 the next morning.

I walked in today and I am not sure I even had an interview. It seemed like I was hired before I even showed my face. No complaints.

What is it, you ask, that I might be doing? Designing and building a website for a local shop, while at the same time being a ‘Sales Associate’. Currently, I have done no more than work on a logo design for the website, but if you want to track my work take a look here. I will keep you posted on the happenings of this new project and explain a little of what I am doing once I get going.

As for now, I sleep with the thought of papers and websites in the back of my mind.

  1. I enjoy your blog – the variety of pictures, words, and picture-y words is both aesthetically and thoughtfully pleasing. Good work. A+.
